Parallel: having the same direction, course, nature, or tendency; corresponding; similar. In its simplest form, parallel addresses only two subjects. In this series, two lives are divided into moments which call for a photographic record to be taken. A box of photographs hidden in the basement of my childhood home unveiled just how little family albums tell about actual lives. The box held the few snapshots that were taken of my mother while she was growing up. Only a handful of images from a vastly different life depict a mirrored existence when compared to the thousands of images that document my own childhood. It is easy to assume a parallel existence based on the imagery presented, much harder to learn the truth about how the lives played out between the photographs.
